China’s GDP
Now China has become the third largest country in terms of GDP after the United States and Japan. Their government has taken a lot of steps to ensure growth.
China and Taiwan
Though both China and Taiwan claim to be the real China, mainland China enjoys recognition worldwide.
The population and economy of mainland China is much higher, though per capita income in Taiwan is higher. Companies in Taiwan are significantly large investors in mainland China.
.cn – Chinese CCTLd
Last year , the number of registrations for the .cn ccTLD exceeded the number of registrations for .de and at present it is the most popular ccTLD after the .com.
One of the reasons was the central registries decision to offer the domains for 1 yuan (14 cents). This led to a spurt in registrations, though many are misused for spamming and other purposes.
Internet users
Last year , China became the country with the largest number of internet user. Though the percentage of the population accessing the internet remains low compared to the developed countries, the absolute numbers are higher.
Most of the applications are in local languages, usually Mandarin Chinese.
Internet usage
In the last week, the Chinese government has been cracking down on the misuse of the internet for providing access to non -family friendly websites. Both Google and the Chinese search engine Baidu have not been spared.
The Chinese government is very clear about internet usage, it actively encourages it to be used for trade, but it also has strict censorship rules in place.
Forex reserves
Over a period of time , China has accumulated large amounts of forex reserves, and by using them judiciously, they can weather the current economic recession.
Chinese government
China is ruled by the communist party and most of the top government leaders are technocrats. They usually have many years of practical experience and this helps them in taking better decisions.
This is unlike some countries which are officially democracies , but have major political parties run by dynasties. These rulers have led soft lives, are fond of luxuries and do not have enough practical experience to take quick decisions.
Unemployment
With the economic recession, graduates from universities in China are finding it difficult to get jobs. So the Chinese government has started sending them to the villages where most people live and poverty levels are still high. They educate the villagers on the latest technologies and also gain valuable work experience which will help them when the economy recovers
