Last year , the number of registrations for the .cn ccTLD exceeded the number of registrations for .de and at present it is the most popular ccTLD after the .com.

One of the reasons was the central registries decision to offer the domains for 1 yuan (14 cents). This led to a spurt in registrations, though many are misused for spamming and other purposes.
